Why You Need a Great Detailer

On February 27, 2019 I purchased a car that I wanted since I first saw one at the St. Louis European Auto Show on June 4, 2006. The car was, at the time, the new Aston Martin V8 Vantage. I loved the car ever since. I toured the Aston Martin factory in Gaydon, England in 2011 and I was completely hooked at that point.

So, moving forward to my delivery in March of 2019. The car came up from Houston, TX on an open trailer with three other sports cars to the Chicagoland area. Unfortunately, the truck encountered a pretty nasty ice storm in Missouri and the cars collected “some ice and salt”. I remember the day vividly, it was around 14 degrees outside, and it took a very long time to get it off the trailer and into the garage.

When I DID get it into the garage, I did not experience the thrill of new ownership that I had anticipated. Instead, I felt the feeling of total buyer’s remorse and dread…

Over the next few months I started work on all sorts of paint and window issues. The car had extensive iron contamination, scratches and swirl marks in the paint, extreme hard water etching on the glass, and many other cosmetic issues. I had my hands full to say the least.

Thankfully, I’ve been detailing cars for a while and also have a network of other detailers to call upon when I run into unique challenges. I still have some areas to work on and some new products to audition on her, but I’m very proud of the results so far.

So, always know a good detailer! And, yes, this blog posting is a shameless plug for my detailing business:
